I am not many miles from the exchange. I can get almost 5 gig on a good day, but mostly it’s about 3-4, and less..
Don’t talk to me about packet loss though, well to be more transparent and less techy - don’t talk to me on Skype or packet loss will mean video and VOIP voice over the internet protocol will be hit and miss and often impossible - much to the amusement of my German colleague.
It’s less because I know that mechanically the exchange is full. I know this because an inquiry to another provider ( who almost always use BT equipment and lines ) told me as much, as they would levy a charge to install new equipment at the exchange itself.
What this means in practise is at peak times, even odd times my connection just drops - because it’s shared between everyone average speed drops.
What this means is sometimes my Tumblr and other internet work gets buggy.
Apologies to my followers for this, because my posts then become erratic and confused.
What would help?
I read this blog and thought what a great idea.
What would help?
I read this blog and thought what a great idea.
” ( the idea would be to make ) rural areas 50 miles away from the neared urban centres “Broadband Havens” where broadband Internet pipes could be laid with no taxes or penalties from local or central government.
( creating ) exclusion zones where effectively anything to do with the Internet (outside of gambling, pornography and file-sharing) was deregulated. Crucially, corporation tax on technology businesses was lifted. “
Basically there is no reason for web based companies to be sited in urban centres, but for the speed of connection. More over the quality of life a country location brings is for many something to be desired.
